Watching Loved Ones

Loved one in pain. There are times in life when the best thing we can do for the ones we love is to let them be, to allow a person to live their own life. Although it may hurt us to see the ones that we love and care about feel a pain we deem unnecessary, there will come a time when we will not always be there to help them. And so perhaps the best thing we can do is to give them the tools to get out of tough situations. Perhaps the best thing we can do is to be there when the other person decides they truly want help.

Each one of us has our own lessons to learn. Although we would like to spare others from the difficulties we have had to face, there are times when we must learn to step back. They may stumble, they may falter and they may do it many times over, but in the end, it is they who must learn to pick themselves up. It is they who must learn to dust themselves off and to keep going. Stepping back does not mean not caring. It does not mean walking away. It simply means loving someone enough to allow them to love themselves. If they can learn to love themselves and in turn learn to share this love with others, that is all one can ask for. Perhaps one day when that love is realized on both ends, there will be understanding. There will be no more pain. There will be no more frustration. There will just be love, a love that was always there, but not always accepted.
